Liberated Learning Partners in North America:
Saint Mary's University, Canada
Liberated Learning began at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Canada, in 1999. The initial partnership formed between Saint Mary’s and IBM Research has since grown to become the Liberated Learning Consortium, a group of 14 universities working together to further develop speech recognition technology as a means to accessible and barrier free learning.
Saint Mary’s University plays a dual role as both physical host to the core Liberated Learning management team and partner in Liberated Learning research and development activities. Saint Mary’s provides the financial oversight required for government and industry funding, as well as the legal underpinning for consortium agreements and contracts that are in keeping with the Liberated Learning business model.
The core management team provides central services to the Consortium in several critical areas:
- Management systems
- Institutional agreements and contracts
- Communications & Public Relations
- Implementation support
- Training and user support
- Research
- Knowledge Management
Saint Mary's also leads several Strategic Initiatives. Current research efforts include:
