Liberated Learning Partners in Australasia:
University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia
Overview:
University of the Sunshine Coast (USC), in Queensland, Australia was Saint Mary's University's first formal testing partner for the original Liberated Learning Project. USC is a relatively new university in Australia, celebrating its 10th year in 2006, located in one of the country's fastest growing regions.
The Liberated Learning team at University of the Sunshine Coast received a $500,000 grant in the spring of 2001 from Australia's Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) through the Higher Education Innovations Program to develop the infrastructure that would support the Liberated Learning concept in Australian higher education institutions.
Collaborating sites included the University of the Sunshine Coast and Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker Program Aboriginal Corporation in Queensland (QATSIHWEPAC), Australian National University in the Australian Capital Territory and Massey University at Albany, Auckland, New Zealand. (QATSIHWEPAC and Massey are not part of the DEST Program.)
Besides using ViaScribe (and its predecessor NetScribe) technology in classrooms as diverse as Adult Literacy for the Deaf and non-English speaking background students to Law and Biomechanics, the Australian team leads the way in developing a network version of ViaScribe for simultaneously capture and display of video, audio, text and other media such as PowerPoint for training and on-line use.
