Liberated Learning Partners in North America:

Trent University, Canada

Trent University
Overview:

Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario, introduced Liberated Learning into two of its course offerings in the W2003 semester.

Trent's involvement in Liberated Learning originated with the manager of its Disability Services Office, Eunice Lund-Lucas. Curtis Pineiro and Jan Myland are Adaptive Technologists responsible for LLI training and technical support. Carrie Richardson conducts editing and research.

During Trent's first semester as a Liberated Learning partner, Dr. Elaine Sharfe implemented Liberated Learning in her Adolescent Development Psychology course and Dr. Richard Hurley conveyed Programming Methodologies with the help of the technology.

In Winter 2004, Dr. Elizabeth Popham deployed Liberated Learning in the delivery of a course in Canadian poetry, and in Fall-Winter 2004-05 made use of it in a full-year course on Milton and his age. A PowerPoint presentation explores the process, instructional outcomes and student response. [VIEW POWERPOINT]

Trent University is also a partner in a new Consortium project which began in December 2005.

The Universal Liberated Learning project is collaboration between Saint Mary's University, Trent University and IBM, that seeks to engage national disability organizations in Canada in extending the Liberated Learning concept into new layers of Canadian society. Staff has been working on ways to refine the use of the ViaScribe technology to bring it to users from outside of the traditional university environment Visit the Projects section of the site for more information.
