Ryerson Visit
Liberated Learning Project team members, Maxine Laine, Terry Sulymko,
and Alan Cheong from Ryerson Polytechnic University visited Saint
Mary’s University on November 7th and 8th. During these two
days team members from Saint Mary’s provided them with information
about many aspects of the project and the processes involved with
incorporating the concept in the classroom.
Maxine Laine is coordinating the project at the Ryerson site, Alan
Cheong will be providing technical support, and Professor Terry
Sulymko will be implementing the Liberated Learning concept in
the classroom
early in 2001. Ryerson team members spent time with Saint Mary’s
Liberated Learning faculty, before and during their Liberated Learning
courses. This allowed them to view the steps involved with preparing
for the class, transporting the system to the classroom, and the Liberated
Learning concept live in the classroom.
Ryerson team members attended a System/User orientation, receiving
an overview of the hardware/operating system, which was given
by Gary Spicer from Dymaxion Research. This orientation also provided
an overview
of speech recognition technology, ViaVoice technology, our Classroom
Application, and the Liberated Learning On-Line Notes System.
They
also participated in a ViaVoice training and skill development
session, which gave them a more in depth look at how the ViaVoice
software
works and how it is used for the purposes of the project.
Saint Mary’s Liberated Learning team members were pleased to
have Maxine, Terry and Alan visit Halifax for the Liberated Learning
Project overview, and look forward to the introduction of the concept
live at Ryerson Polytechnic University.
