University College of Cape Breton and the Alexander Graham Bell Institute join the Liberated Learning Project

The Liberated Learning Project (LLP) welcomes the University College of Cape Breton (UCCB), Centre of Excellence IT and the A.G. Bell Institute as a project partners. UCCB President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jacquelyn Thayer-Scott, along with Ron MacNeil, Director of the UCCB Centre of Excellence in Information Technology, and Director of the Alexander Graham Bell Institute, and Frank Comeau, Chair of the Board of Trustees - Alexander Graham Bell Institute, visited Saint Mary's University on March 1, 2001 to participate in the signing of the official partnership agreement between Saint Mary's and UCCB.

Located on Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Island, UCCB has a long tradition of supporting students with disabilities. In addition, it is wonderful that the Alexander Graham Bell Institute, dedicated to the work of Alexander Graham Bell who was dedicated to helping the deaf 120 years ago, is now involved with the Liberated Learning Project.

Dr. Colin Dodds, President of Saint Mary's University welcomed our new partners and hosted the signing of the agreement. Mary Ann McGrath, Member of the Nova Scotia Legislative Assembly also attended the signing, as did Martha Jodrey, a former member of the Saint Mary's University Board of Governors. Students, Kara Gillis and Melissa Myers, who participate in the Liberated Learning Project also attended.

Following the agreement signing, Dr. David Leitch, Director of the LLP and Keith Bain, Project Manager of the LLP, gave a presentation about the project. To complete this event, all in attendance visited Dr. Stan Armstrong's Liberated Learning class to get a first hand view of the technology in the classroom.

The LIBERATED LEARNING PROJECT is excited about the partnership with the University College of Cape Breton and the Alexander Graham Bell Institute. We look forward to working with our newest team members.
