USC’s approach to expanding Liberated Learning on their
campus is to request volunteers and then celebrate their achievements.
By emphasizing benefits of the
ViaScribe technology to support pedagogical aims, lecturers
understand that it enables reflection on teaching styles and
content, provides access to delivered content
for research use and its innovative application can be a valuable
part of the teaching portfolio.
ViaScribe is extensively used to capture rich multimedia
content within the lecture theatre environment. It is universally
designed to provide blended learning support to
all students in a course by locating key concepts of the Power
Point slides in close proximity to the video and transcript
which provides the detail. Students can access
material using either RealPlayer software or it is available
as a HTML document within the BlackBoard learning management
system as a link.
Simultaneous display using integrated multimedia
technology process of video, PowerPoint, IBM ViaScribe real
time transcription capturing tool and a statistical package
called SPSS. Here the output uses the RealPlayer application
to simultaneously display all the media and includes audio
of the video/transcription.

Since 2000, USC has provided Liberated Learning courses in
many disciplines such as Business Finance, Communications,
Economics, Management, Accounting,
and its MBA program in Australia, China, Malaysia and Fiji.
Liberated Learning technology is also used to create a composite
of support information for students such
as note-taking and time-management study skills. For further
information, please contact Di Paez, Project Manager, Australia.
