Natural Language Understanding is Difficult for Machines

Why Speech Recognition is Difficult

ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition) Key Concepts

This is a demonstration of the problem of readability of digitized text currently when we lecture or dictate to we do not necessarily use correct language I mean grammatically correct language you can also see that there are no sentence or paragraph markers which makes it very difficult to read the words as they appear with current speech recognition software it is necessary to insert these markers by saying things like period comma new paragraph we are in the process of modifying the software to include these markers without having to say them it would be intrusive for the professor and the student to have to do this these words also do not wrap so that eventually everything you see appearing on the screen it will still appear simultaneously but it will appear at the bottom of the screen not right in the middle where it is convenient for reading purposes hopefully this short example of what the spoken word looks like demonstrates the challenges ahead
