Research and Confidentiality

From time to time students may be asked to participate in interviews, surveys, and/or focus groups as part of enrollment in a Liberated Learning course. Since this is a research initiative, informed consent is required before participation in research activities. Students have been and may also be asked to provide feedback while using the on-line lecture notes system.

While excerpts from interview material may appear in published work, identities are kept in confidence and pseudonyms are assigned to participants. Researchers may use audio and/or video clips of the lectures; however, these materials will only be viewed by those appointed to Identities will not be disclosed in any way to other persons. All data collected throughout the life of an initiative pertaining to actual student participants, including transcripts of interviews, audio and visual recordings will be destroyed at the completion of the initiative. Researchers participating in an initiative will also sign a confidentiality agreement, agreeing that the rights and privacy of participants will be respected.

Any student who does not feel comfortable participating in a research initiative is not required to do so. Please speak to your instructor if you have any concerns about participating in a Liberated Learning research initiative. Students are free to register in another section of the course that does not use Liberated Learning technology.
